How to tell if something is laser safe?

This is one of the most asked questions on just about every board, group, website forum and searched on Pinterest, google and TikTok. So I thought it was time that the gates were open and all Laser Owners knew how to check.

The supplies you will need are:
- The Material - Item you are wanting to check
- Blow Torch- Yes you need a very hot flame Propane
- Copper wire- not hard to find, Easiest way is to find some at local hardware (heavy gauge not soft jewelry wire) I used something like this and stripped the plastic coating off first.

So Now that you have these three items you are going to heat up the copper wire with the blow torch, please use safely. Once you see the copper wire turn hot red touch the material you want to test. Hold there for a few seconds. Now Turn on the blow torch and place the wire into the flame. If the wire has a green color in the flame, IT IS NOT LASER SAFE. Green means it has Chloride which is toxic for you and the machine.
You can use this method anytime you have a client come to you with items to laser. It will save you every time. I inform my clients that if the provide written proof of purchase that an item is laser safe or I do the testing which could lead to minor damage I will take the job. But do not laser anything you don't know or before you test it.
